FELiCS Retreat in Lehnin: Getting Ready to Go Open Source

Earlier this year our team packed up and headed to Lehnin, just outside Berlin, for three days of working (and living) together with one big goal: getting FELiCS ready to go open source.

Most of our time was spent on the less glamorous but super important parts of the project: cleaning up the code and, especially, writing documentation. It was the kind of work that’s hard to squeeze in between regular tasks, so having a few days dedicated just to this made a huge difference.

Being in the same room also helped us move faster on decisions that would usually drag on in online chats. We sketched ideas, aligned priorities, and agreed on what the first open-source version should look like.

Of course, it wasn’t all work—we had time to hang out, share meals, and just enjoy being together as a team outside of the university.

By the end of the retreat, FELiCS felt a lot closer to being ready for its big step. We came back tired but motivated, and really excited to share the open-source release with you soon. Stay tuned!
