We are delighted to announce that the EU Doctoral Network FairCFD (MSCA-DN, 2025–2029) has been officially accepted. This ambitious initiative places sustainable, efficient, and transparent computational methods at the core of future CFD research—an agenda that aligns directly with our long-term vision for the FELiCS framework.
FairCFD brings together 8 European universities, a national research center, and 6 industrial partners to train 15 Doctoral Candidates in eco-responsible scientific computing. With an emphasis on reducing the environmental footprint of large-scale simulations, the network is fully aligned with the European Green Deal and the MSCA Green Charter.

A key component of the project is the development and sharing of advanced open-source tools, and here FELiCS will act as a central platform. Several doctoral projects will use, extend, and benchmark FELiCS for applications ranging from
- fluid–structure interaction,
- linear aeroacoustics, to
- physics-informed model reduction,
ultimately broadening the code’s capabilities and its visibility within the European CFD community.
The FELiCS team will contribute to the training programme through supervision, collaborative research, and hosting secondments—ensuring that the next generation of researchers is equipped not only with advanced linear-analysis tools but also with the mindset required for resource-efficient high-performance computing.
We look forward to the scientific exchange and joint developments that FairCFD will bring, and to seeing FELiCS play a larger role in accelerating eco-responsible CFD research across Europe.
